Gifted and Talented

Grades: Kindergarten-12th Grade
Huckabay ISD is committed to making sure each of our students has access to the best learning opportunities we can provide. Recently, we opened up nominations for Gifted and Talented identification. Teacher nominations will occur in the fall and teacher/parent nominations in the spring. Please see the handbook for specific time periods.
What does it mean to be GT?
According to the state, “gifted and talented” means a child or youth who performs at, or shows the potential for performing at, a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and who:
- Exhibits high-performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area
- Possesses an unusual capacity for leadership
- Excels in a specific academic field
- They might also exhibit some of the following characteristics:
- Varied interests and curiosity
- Advanced comprehension, deep understanding
- An accelerated pace of learning
- High levels of retention with an extraordinary amount of information
- An ability to think in abstract terms and sense consequence
- An ability to generate original ideas and solutions
- Flexibility of thinking
- An advanced vocabulary
- Persistent goal-directed behavior
- Evaluative, judgemental thinking
- They might also exhibit some of the following characteristics:
